From his workshop in Innsbruck, Thomas Medicus masterfully combines his traditional glazier skills with his artistic ones to create hand painted anamorphic glass sculptures. Thomas trained as a master glazier at Austria’s most famous school for glassmaking, Glasfachschule Kramsach. This technical training has led him to specialise both in restoring historic lead glazing and handcrafting striking artworks. With a contemporary perspective, he infuses different art forms to make innovative sculptures, which appear different from every angle, transforming, merging and vanishing according to the light. His fragmented pictures painted on glass cubes mesmerise, and reflect Thomas’ curiosity towards glass, and its special relationship with light. From brightly coloured stain glass furniture to figurative interpretations of mammals, Thomas plays with his traditional techniques to great effect.
