Father and son, Rob and Jaap Thalen create unique silver pieces under the name Thalen & Thalen. They founded their joint artistic venture and workshop in 2006, in Francorchamps, Belgium. Rob had studied silversmithing and trained as a bronze sculptor. He began working as a sculptor in the Netherlands in 1982, exhibiting all over Europe. His son Jaap studied architecture, but soon realised office life was not his calling. After much consideration, the pair decided to combine their creative talents to handcraft objects in pure silver. They try to imbue their silver creations with passion and personality. Their silver vessels and bowls are inspired by shapes and textures found in nature, such as a riverbed, morning dew or a flower. The result is eye-catching pieces which play with form and light.
