#AWellCraftedLife Linda Nieuwstad - Fabric Sculptor

#AWellCraftedLife is a new series telling the stories of the brilliant artisans who collaborate with us. For the first week, we are presenting fabric sculptor, Linda Nieuwstad from the Netherlands.

Linda handcrafts giant-sized flower sculptures from vibrantly coloured fabrics flocked on steel frames. Her inspiration comes from nature itself and the flower still life paintings of 17th century Dutch masters, notably Jan van Huysum. Linda seeks to encapsulate the feeling of walking straight into one of his paintings, and for her pieces to evoke human emotions. She rejoices in the delicacy of flowers in the wild and their natural imperfections. From her studio in Woudenberg, she brings her creations to life by welding steel and applying petals and leaves meticulously sewn from truck tarpaulin, felt, leather, recycled woollen blankets, velvet or paper. Her monumental masterpieces have graced hospitals, museums, festivals, gardens and interiors across the world, adding soul to their surroundings.
