Jan Barič is a self-taught woodworker and cabinetmaker from Celje, Slovenia. From an early age, he fostered a fascination for drawing and design, studying architecture at university in Ljubljana. Whilst working as a city planner, a refurbishment project for the façade of a wooden building sparked in him a passion for the material. He learned how to use woodworking tools from his grandfather and furthered his knowledge watching online video tutorials by renowned woodworkers, as well as experimenting and creating in his workshop. Today he designs and handcrafts innovative furniture pieces, from coffee tables to chairs, as well as wooden boxes, bottle opens and coat hangers. Geometric shapes, everyday objects and nature inspire the aesthetics of his contemporary pieces, which take time, patience and imagination to create.
