Innovative works created by major international designers in collaboration with Portuguese master artisans are now on show at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Lisbon, until 2 June. The exhibition showcases the work of Emmanuel Babled, Marre Moerel, Marco Sousa Santos and Sam Baron, who have participated in a residency staged at the Fundação Ricardo Do Espirito Santo Silva (FRESS) in association with Passa ao Futuro , two Lisbon-based organisations working to safeguard and promote Portuguese artisanal crafts. The annual residency, named Reimagine Decorative Arts , invites contemporary designers to reinterpret traditional techniques by collaborating with master craftsmen working in the 18 artisanal workshops at FRESS, resulting in original and innovative works. Babled’s piece, Beverly, created by a team of master woodworkers headed by Jorge Fonte, Pedro Doria and David Cruz, was selected for Doppia Firma 2019 .
