For the first time, the foundation sends 50 young artisans and designers to study craftsmanship across Europe, for a summer steeped in skills. Seven short courses will introduce the students and graduates to seven crafts outside of their domain. From weaving Portuguese basketry in Lisbon and intertwining the coloured threads of tapestries in Aubusson, from glassblowing on the shores of the French island of Belle-île-en-Mer to traditional gilding, etching and carving skills in London, all courses are led by masters of the craft. Offered and developed in partnership with members of the foundation’s network, the programme chimes with the Michelangelo Foundation’s key aims to promote excellence in craftsmanship, to contribute to the passing on of expertise, and give young talents the chance to develop their skills.
